Ajoka Theater which was founded by the late veteran actress Madeeha Gauhar performed a thought provoking and intriguing play named “Marya Hoya Kutta” at the Alhamra Drama Festival on Saturday evening. The play was narrated in Punjabi language and was organised by the Lahore Arts Council. Directed by Nirvaan Nadeem, the presentation was a multi layered narrative on the society with a pinch of satire in it.
“Marya Hoya Kutta” was penned by the executive director Ajoka Theater Shahid Mehmood Nadeem. The center of the play was the present day society and the presentation blatantly displayed the story based on the norms of to days society and practices that are a part of our everyday lives in a humorous manner with a deeper message in it.
The play had featured bright and talented actors from Ajoka’s signature “Acting Master Class” which had been conducted in Lahore a few weeks ago. Each actor presented themselves with their full potential and everyone unleashed their acting credentials in a beautiful manner.
The opening of the play had featured a dead dog lying in the middle of the road which was causing immense trouble for the people living in the neighborhood. Despite of the difficulty that was caused by the dead dog, none of the people in the neighborhood was willing to remove the dog’s corpse.
The people were busy in their every day tasks and were hoping that someone would remove the dog. This depiction was an alarming display on how we rely on others on our own problems instead of trying to get rid of them on our own. All of a sudden the dead dog disappears but the smell of the dead stays. The residents of the neighborhood start accusing each other blaming them to be the cause of the odor.
The actors depicted each and every scene of the show brilliantly which led to a standing ovation in the end of the play. Veteran actor Naeem Tahir showered his praise for the participants of the play and especially applauded the director for such an amazing endeavor.
While giving his remarks he said the production reflected the efforts and dedication that Nirvaan had put in to make the play a rich mix of enjoyable and thought-provoking socially relevant content.
