Black Panther has taken the world by storm by being the most positively received superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man started it all.
The movie not only celebrates black culture but is also possibly the first movie to put in so much effort into characters and detailing since Blade. I mean, Meteor Man can’t be taken seriously, right?
The hero, being the first black superhero in Marvel comics made his cinematic debut in Captain America: Civil War and fans realized immediately that the Black Panther deserves a solo movie for himself.
The movie takes place right after Civil War, where T’Challa has taken on his duty as the Black Panther after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda.
T’Challa returns to Wakanda to take his place as King. He now has to deal with the burden of being king so suddenly and wrestles with the position of Wakanda in the world. Conflict arises when his right to the throne is challenged and what continues is an action-packed delight.
While superhero films are dependent on the protagonist and Chad Bosewick does deliver, every actor in this film deserves praise for holding their own. They each did a fantastic job with acting, dialogue delivery and portraying their character perfectly. Not in many movies do we see producers putting details in the villains and they often get neglected, becoming two dimensional and forgettable. And might we add, the fashion in the film was spot on. We might be getting a few kurtas!
The only regret so far is that not much effort was put in from the CGI side and some fight choreographies lacked finesse. However, the consistency of plot, the ideology of Wakanda and the powerful characters really made up for it. Not to mention that the women in the film will win your heart with their strong and independent personalities.
Despite there being many superheroes of color, this movie has tremendously surpassed the expectations of its audience in a really short time.
