After the successful venture of Pakistan’s Manto, Bollywood is set to release its own version of Sadat Hasan Manto’s biopic. The film is set to release in India soon, and although many Indian movies have been banned, it looks like Nandita Das wants to give us some hope!
Renowned film-maker Nandita Das is all set to release her latest work of the biopic on Saadat Hassan Manto. The film is titled Manto and will talk about the legendary controversial writer, Sadat Hasan Manto. The biopic will be starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has portrayed the renowned writer.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year and will be releasing to the public of India and worldwide on the 21st of September. While taking on Twitter, Nandita Das stated that she is currently trying to get Manto to release in Pakistan.
She wrote, “We’re working towards releasing the film in Pakistan soon.”

Although we are not quite sure of how she can convince the Pakistani film council, many Pakistani fans, including us cannot wait for the film to hit the theaters!
While Manto already has a Pakistani biopic, the Bollywood film has received a lot of appreciation from critics and the audience. People around the world are eagerly waiting to see what the Indian style of Manto has in store.
To those who do not know, Manto focuses on the controversial writer, who has struggled throughout life and was distraught with life. Many questions like why his stories are criticised while all does show are the facets of reality, are set to be answered through the story-telling. Amongst all of it, he also looks at his beloved Bombay parting away, as the nation of Pakistan arises and the prospect of moving to Lahore becomes a reality.
The film stars Rasika Dugal, Divya Dutta, Rishi Kapoor and Tahir Raj Bhasin in pivotal characters, other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has the honored spotlight. So while you wait, check out the trailer below:
