Rowan Atkinson returns for the second installment of his spy film, Johnny English Strikes Again and he is here with a completely different look, that’s unique enough to be no less than Austin Powers or our very own Mr. Bean!
Before we start with our review of the film, check out the trailer below:
Perhaps the best thing we know about English is his ways to beat an enemy. In fact, he ditches the idea of using smartphones, virtual reality (VR) gears and social media. Instead, he fights with his tools. Kerr exploits the laughter factor as he creates ample opportunities in the film. The scenes are filled with nostalgia, laughter, a lot of fun at every end.
Even as a 63-year-old, Atkinson is fresh and agile for his role. We could see a little bit of Mr. Bean factor in him at times, but that just adds more rib-tickling fun.
The rest of the cast follows the varying timing of each comic scene. While Ben Miller could have given more punches, Emma Thompson was perfect. French actress Olga Kurylenko as the Russian spy Ophelia also brings the necessary glam, and Jake Lacy as the geek billionaire is a much-needed addition.
While many funny scenes underline the original story line, they leave you wanting for more. With clever directing, Kerr executes Mr. Bean’s elements of fun effortlessly into the story and the audience enjoys every bit of it.
