Nanu Ki Jaanu Movie Review: A Casper-tastic Movie!

Nanu Ki Jaanu entrails a casper-like ghost friendly movie with dark comedy about a land mafia agent in Delhi, Nanu (played by Abhay Deol) who harasses landlords and robes their home to live as a disguised tenant. One day, he encounters an accident and in efforts to help the victim accidentally gets haunted by her ghost. The film expresses Nanu’s crisis in both his personal and professional life as an unwanted entity occupies a new flat that he wants to usurp. That’s the story but before we give you our version of the review, check out the trailer below:

Nanu ki Jaanu is a story about the main character and his mafia gang run a local operation in Delhi where they casually rent a home with an alter motive of stealing it. Abhay Deol perfectly carries a ruthless and narcissistic personality but shows his soft sides when he runs an accident victim to the hospital and from then on unwillingly changes into a better person.

nanu ki jaanuThe plot twist is that this ghost is a female (played by Patralekha) who occupies the latest flat that Nanu plans to steal. In mist of the whole chaos, Nanu and the ghost end up falling in love.

Director Abhay Deol and Manu Rishi bring a familiar setting from Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! to latest film, Nanu Ki Jaanu. However this time, the sparks don’t fly like how they did last time. While the story carries some hilarious twist and turns, it keeps the audience on the edge of their seats by remaining unique and interesting with a few horror elements.

The only reason that the movie is bearable in the first half is because it is a comedy. But when it turns into a whodunit in the second half and a new emotional angle is introduced, it falls completely flat. Neither the performances nor an ever changing storyline, where newer characters are introduced, help pick it up. An anticlimactic, emotional ending further seals the fate of this film.

If you ask us, Nanu ki Jaanu is worth the watch if you’re looking for some light horror and something to watch with your friends and family.
