If someone would ask me to name an actor who I ‘d like to see shifting roles from a gangster to a serial killer and from that to a Nawab; I only one name would flash into my mind and that name’s of Jurassic Park’s star Irfan Khan. Apart from the personal admiration, that’s also true that when I saw the trailer of his latest Bollywood flick ‘ Qarib Qarib Singlle ’ I was surprised because the trailer had shown him playing the role of carefree Yogi who lives his own way and in a superstition that all his former girlfriends were unable to forget him because of them having a bond of ‘Jaan Lewa Ishq’. Yogi runs into a widow Jaya (Parvathy) through a dating website who’s living her life single after the death of her husband. And the rest of the remains the tale of their never ending adventures.
The movie itself is a roller coaster ride which wouldn’t let you be bored for even a split second because it keeps moving; but the key to expect some fun out of this movie is to expect absolute nothing, yeah I know right. Movie brings you the fable of two extremely opposite sort of people who travel around together because Yogi had offered Jaya to accompany him to meet his older ‘lovers’ about whom he claims that they still couldn’t get over him after all this years. The film’s much of a traveling saga where you ‘d witness the couple running into unsolicited chaos created by the mischievous acts of Yogi; shifting from plane to the train and from train to the classic yellow cab Indian taxi rides. ‘Ek Chaalis Ki Last Local’ famed Neha Dhupia has an appearance in the movie too.
Irrfan delivers yet another solid seal of his credentials, he’s mischievous and full of life; contrary to that Parvathy is the pragmatic one who has everything sorted out about herself despite of the fact that she’s been inactive romantically after the unfortunate demise of her spouse. The film appeals you not to expect too much with the tagline ‘Sath Jeene Marne Wali Story Nahi Hai Humari’ which means ‘Our story isn’t about living and dying together’. To me the movie’s a perfect weekend material which wouldn’t disappoint you if you are a Hindi movie maniac and it would end your weekend at the note where you ‘d go to sleep with a smile on your face.
The movie has been penned by Kamna Chandra under the direction of Tanuja Chandra. Qarib Qarib Singlle was released on 9th November 2017.
