On 10th of October as the entire world would observe World Day Against the Death Penalty, our very own critically acclaimed Sarmad Khoosat is bringing us something that would leave us biting our nails. The veteran actor and director is all set to star in a 24-hour long play called ‘No Time to Sleep’. The main reason of this play is to protest against the inhumane law of death penalty.
Sarmad Khoosat, the brain behind numerous critically applauded projects like Manto and Hum Safar would be depicting the final days of Prisoner Z. Zulfiqar was the JPP’s first client and spent 17 years on death row. During this period is sentence was scheduled and stayed 20 times. This play is presented by the Justice Project Pakistan, in association with Olomopolo Media and Highlight Arts.
Beginning in a replica of a death cell, the journey of Prisoner Z would start on 26 September, 2018 at 12:00 PM (PST) when his petition of mercy is rejected by the court. During his time serving the death row, Zulfiqar educated hundreds of prisoners securing 33 diplomas for himself.
The live stream would start with Zulfiqar sitting in his cell occasionally being silent, occasionally conversing with the guard who has his eyes set at him. The presentation would be a clear depiction of what happens with the death row prisoners before they are finally executed.
Sarmad Khoosat’s play No Time to Sleep will commence streaming live at exactly 12:00 am and it would be streamed worldwide. The concept and dynamics of this play have been provided by Ryan van Winkle. Khoosat’s sister Kanwal Khoosat would be dealing with the directional duties and the play has been produced by Iram Sana.

Justice Project Pakistan (JPP) is a human rights organisation that was established in December 2009 and is based in Lahore, Pakistan. JPP provides legal support to the individuals who are facing harshest punishments behind the bars.
A prologue would also depict the rolling coverage of Z’s execution warrant and the endeavors are behind his execution. Zulfiqar’s family would also be notified and asked to see him for the final time before the prisoner meets his ultimate fate.
