These days Bollywood is being flooded with women coming out in the name of the #metoo movement. They are using platforms like social media and public stages to name and shame their harassers. From Nana Patekar to just recently claimed writer-lyricist, Varun Grover. It does not look like this matter will be dealt with any time soon.
Just recently the Sacred Games writer caught the attention of many publishers as he denied all allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him last night by an unnamed woman.
Varun Grover, who has written several other entertaining projects, was alleged by a Twitter user on Tuesday who claimed that Varun had harassed her when he was a student at BHU, almost 17 years ago.
However, Varun immediately voiced out his response on Twitter when the unnamed woman’s tweet went viral.
In response to the allegations made against him, the writer wrote a detailed statement, “Really unfortunate that these completely fabricated and defamatory allegations have been made on me. None of the sequence of events as described in that anonymous screenshot happened ever and I deny all of it with all the conviction I have in my bones,” he wrote in his Tweet.
He added, “I know it is hard to reconcile the two – ‘Believe Women’ and ‘Don’t put any allegations on me’. I have been thrown this curve ball and I will find a way – but at the end of the day, a complete lie can’t be allowed to roam free while truth sits cornered in a dungeon.”
“Am absolutely willing to cooperate and clear my name. Let’s not allow such agenda-driven tactics to derail this movement please,” he further added, urging his fans, family and friends to cooperate.

However, perhaps the most interesting part is that after Varun released his statement, the tweet and the account which made the allegations were deleted.
Shortly after, directors Anurag Kashyap and Neeraj Ghaywan came to support their fellow writer on Twitter.
Anurag tweeted, “This man I have known so closely and so so long that I refuse to believe any allegations about him. #believethevictim and investigate the claims and also be careful to not let vested interests sabotage a long pending genuine movement.”
