Zayn Malik, who is a British-Pakistani singer and a former member of One Direction, revealed the real reason for leaving the band in a recent interview. The 25-year-old pop-singer – who was part of the biggest boy bands of all time, decided to go on his own solo venture during the time when One Direction was at its highest point in the music industry.
One Direction, which also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson decided to continue as a four-men band after Zayn left the group. However, they too went their separate ways just a year later. Each of them either launched their own solo projects or announced an indefinite hiatus to their fans.
During his recent interview, Zayn revealed that he has not been in touch with the other members of the former band. Moreover, he also revealed that the group had internal clashes and 2015 – the year of the disband – was not the year that things fell apart for the first time.
“I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you. That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happen and things that were said after I left. Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected,” he explained.
Zayn further added that he had no friends in One Direction. He said, “I have always been a bit like that, though — always a bit of an island. I don’t like to confer with too many people.”
“We went from theaters, to arenas, to stadiums — there was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom. I guess that kind of progression to any mind – but especially when you’re 17, 18 – it kind of affects you a little bit. People take it different ways — especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart,” he further added.
When asked about his relationship with the American fashion model, Gigi Hadid, he revealed that things have been amazing. He also said that she is a great partner, “She’s super-organised and I’m really not. It helps that she can get things together for me a little bit. I lean on her a lot.”
